The Bologna Process refers to the mechanism that was agreed by the people responsible for the European university system on 19 June 1999 in the Italian city of Bologna in order to create the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) by 2010, which would allow students and educators to move freely under conditions of quality, inclusion and professionalism. It is the result of an extraordinary political effort in which all the players from the university community have collaborated over two decades supported by European states and organisations, and Spain in particular.
