Quite simply: never. This is a thing of the past. The European Higher Education Area is creating an open qualifications model with the ability to respond to the needs of society.
Previously, universities had to abide by formerly established study plans and training programs. Now, they are the ones that propose the academic offer, which once evaluated by ANECA (Spanish quality evaluation and accreditation agency), verified by the Universities Council, registered in the Register of Universities, Centre and Qualifications (RUCT) and authorised by the regional government, can be added to an open catalogue of qualifications.
As well as strengthening universities’ autonomy and freedom, this model also includes the possibility that qualifications may disappear due to their failure to meet various
minimum quality levels.
In fact, official university qualifications will have to be subject to an evaluation procedure every six years from the date that they are registered in the RUCT in order to maintain their accreditation. The Spanish quality evaluation and accreditation agency, ANECA, will therefore establish the necessary verification and accreditation protocols.
